Downtown Madison, WI

I couldn’t spend the day here without thinking about my sister, who spent her college years here at the university of Wisconsin. I never made it out here to visit her and always wished I had. Someday we will have to do it together.

We spent a morning at home catching up.

Then we headed into the city. On the fly we found a place only a half mile from the Capitol to align our van. We walked up to the Capitol and checked out a couple of museums. The first was the Wisconsin Historical Museum. It was very well done, large but simple, with activities for kids to interact. Then we popped in to the Veterans Museum, which was also cool. Each war had its own display with 3-D scene, and there was a working periscope that gave you a 360 degree from the roof, including the Capitol building.

After we grabbed dinner, we made good on a promise to take the boys miniature golfing for their birthdays. We almost got rained out, but we ended up playing their outside Wisconsin-themed course.  Jedi started us off with a hole in one, and we thought we had a child prodigy, but he quickly lost focus (although he very much enjoyed himself). We all had a great time, the kids begged for another round (there were 3 courses) but we called it a wrap while everyone was still enjoying themselves.
