Acadia NP, the end of our journey east

On the docket for today was Acadia National Park. It was breathtakingly beautiful.

First we hiked to Sand Beach.

Our next stop was thunder hole. None of us were very impressed with the spouting function. I don’t know if it was because the tide was wrong or because we have seen some other impressive water spouts, but this was pretty puny. Not to be discouraged though, we did enjoy climbing on the rocks (well, some of us) and the powerful crashing of the waves. The forests and the rocks and the sand and the ocean is mesmerizing to me. I could stay here forever (or at least until the first frost hits in October).

We ended the day with a drive up Cadillac mountain, but it was socked in with rain and fog, so no pictures.

Today was a hard day for me. I feel like Deon tore me away kicking and screaming. I dread tomorrow. From here on out we are headed west. I really don’t want to go home. I can’t imagine ever feeling fulfilled in one place again. It makes me despair to think of the everyday driving of kids to activities, volunteering, schoolbooks. The same schedule day after day. Not to mention the financial struggle. This isn’t the farthest we have been from home, but it is the farthest east. And the end. The end of heading east, the last of the states we will see before heading home.

Life is simpler on the road. I make all my own schedules. Nobody depends on me except for my family. Everything is new and exciting. Cleaning and cooking are simpler by necessity.

I am struggling, as I am sure I will continue to. I will try to remember that through struggle comes growth. I have many beloved friends waiting at home for me. My kids need orthodontic care I can’t offer them on the road. And it will still be an adventure at home. Life is an adventure, as long as I continue to make it so.

And, going home gives me time to plan the next big adventure in our lives!
