NYC day 3

We finally threw in the towel this morning and decided we couldn’t hang with the hours-long commute into the city. So we moved over to Liberty Harbor RV in New Jersey. It is expensive, at $95/night, but the 15 minute commute to the WTC was totally worth it. I just took the girls in.

We bought our tickets and walked around the WTC memorial site, St. Peter’s church, and the survivor tree.

We spent 2 1/2 hours in the 9/11 museum. So raw and heartbreaking.

We had an unfortunate incident where aunica and I got separated from Sidda in the last 15 minutes before the museum closed. I wasn’t worried, she is a capable girl, but I was trying to locate her. We finally ended up at the exit. She was already outside, and began sobbing when she saw me. I’m sure a lot of it was the emotional letting go. It was a tough place to visit. But as she calmed down, she also told me that the security had told her she had to leave. What person in their right mind insists that an 11 year old exit a building onto a dark New York City street without their parents? I was incensed. And I reassured her that they were absolutely in the wrong, and that if that ever happened in the future she should feel able to tell them she needs to wait inside for her parent.

We needed some light heartedness added to our day, so we went to a fancy Italian grocery store for some picnic supplies. Our lack of savvy was comical. We ended up with bread, 2 types of soft cheese, salami, cocoa cookies, and sodas. All of the fancy variety. And my soda was gross. $50 later, I think I have decided that we just aren’t fancy people, but it was a fun experience!
