Downtown Savannah

Today we spent 5 long hours walking downtown Savannah. I bought 2 guide books about the historic buildings and we set out.

Savannah was laid out around purposely created “squares” like small parks every few blocks. It makes for a beautiful city. The architecture reminded me a little of New Orleans.

They take St Patrick’s day seriously around here, and are expecting an influx of 500,000 people this weekend. Needless to say, we will not be in that number. The city dyes all of their fountains green in celebration, so that was fun.

We did not forget that today is international pi day, and we celebrated at Pie Society with Irish pie, chicken pot pie, steak and potato pie, and an apple berry pie. Yum!

We met some new friends from church at the park for a bit, then walked back to the car. There a a bunch of street performers in town for St Patrick’s day, and one made balloon toys for my kids.

It was a long day, but Savannah is a beautiful city and we enjoyed it.
