Today was weird

So, it’s Sunday. We are all set, having researched a meeting time and place, eaten a nice breakfast, and put on our “Sunday best.” 9am, shiny faced we walk to the chapel to find…locked. Weird. Make some phone calls, and due to a scheduled priesthood meeting, they have postponed church until 11, and then only for one hour, foregoing classes. Weird.

After church we stopped at a novel idea of a fast food restauraunt: it had an outdoor playground with a way to order, like a drive through window, and someone would bring your food out to you. Best idea ever. Plus it was sonic, and who can beat that?!?

So, we do that, then hit the flint hills discovery museum for their free grand opening. Which Deon decides to nap through. No problem, except it is insanely busy. The museum is well done, lower floor with lots of interesting facts (did you know that prairie grass roots can be up to 12 feet deep?) and the upper floor very child centered. It was great, until Jedi hit Kieran with a train, and I told him he was done with trains for the rest of the day. He and I fought about that for about 10 minutes before I decided it was time to go. On the way out I put Sidda in charge of Jedi so I could use the restroom. Came out and she had lost him. He was standing next to a very sweet museum employee who assured me that it happens to the best of them. I didn’t have words to tell her, since I was still fuming at Sidda. I know some people may think that is hard, but I need to be able to depend on her long enough to go to the bathroom.

Anyway, the museum was good, we got our fill. The dinosaurs were a favorite.

We were a bit behind in timing, but we headed towards Hutchinson, KS with an eye for visiting tall grass national prairie on the way. That doesn’t exactly work out, as we pass through Council Grove and Deon clips a curb with a loud pshhhhht. Aaaand there goes a tire. He puts the “spare” on, but at this point the spare is one of our regular tires that had worn down to the point of bulging. We aren’t going anywhere for the night. I located a fabulous campground less than 3 miles away, with the only tire shop in town on the road in-between.

And this is how we spent our evening. I could not be more pleased about breaking down.
