Happy birthday at the happiest place in earth! (Aka Disney day 1)

Today Sidda turned 11! I’m not quite sure where the last 11 years have gone, leaving me with this beautiful, funny, compassionate (and passionate) young lady.  As she has been anticipating for MONTHS, we spent the day at Disneyworld, specifically Magic Kingdom. The lines were pretty long, but we still got to see and do a lot. We went on the Swiss family treehouse, the magic carpets, the jungle cruise, the tiki room (which baby K still loves to sing,…

Valentines travel day

Today was mainly a travel day.  First Deon dropped the kids and I off downtown Tallahassee, FL. He was taking the trailer to be looked at for some alignment issues, and I found an ASTC reciprocal museum. Except it wasn’t really a museum. It was a movie theater/planetarium. The Challenger Learning Center was not what we expected, but it was perfect for the hour or so we had to kill. We watched a planetarium show geared to introduce young children…

Underground

I have *always* wanted to visit Carlsbad caverns, and today was the day! First the kids and I did a guided walk while Deon worked. It was a great tour, and happened to be given by a woman Deon went to high school with! Crazy small world! Then the kids did their junior ranger books, and that same ranger swore them in. Eventually, Deon finished working for the day and joined us underground for a walk in the biggest cave…

Long days

Man, these long days of driving are killing me! And deon. And we have quite a few more to go. Today’s adventure was to white sands national monument in New Mexico. The girls and I visited many years ago. Deon got in a few hours of work while the kids and I terrorized the visitors center (and volunteer ranger). We bought our stuff, including sleds, grabbed deon and went out to play. One thing about white sands, you can’t take…

Friends

People. They are what makes it all worth it. We love the beautiful national parks. We soak in the history. We tinker and grasp all the science in amazing museums. But we crave social interaction. Deon has his coworkers, I have friends via text and social media, Aunica has her phone and sidda her kindle. The boys find friends wherever we are that minute. But we need those people who really get us.  A few years back we became good…

Grumpy people

This post may be a bit of a vent. I’m hoping I can find some thoughtfulness in my irritation. The day really was fine. We woke up about an hour outside of Phoenix, having rested at a rest stop for the night. Drove in, checked into the local elks lodge.  Met up with our good friends for some park time. Back to the rv, fed the kids, watched some tv.  First sign of trouble, a knock at the door at…

These are the days…

These are the days that I should write about. Not every day is coming up roses. So, as you may know, we are making the long trek home for my niece, Elizabeth’s, wedding. We are really making tracks, putting in long days to get to Sacramento.  So, yesterday never really ended, it just blended into today. Still driving towards Salt Lake City, we stopped at 1:30am at Evanston, WY for gas. The water pipes had frozen, it was 14 degrees,…

Making tracks

Today was a long driving day. We are 1200 miles from Sacramento, and a special wedding to make in 4 days. I’m a little worried about the weather, and I would be so upset to drive so many miles to miss it. So we drive. We got a late start today. We aren’t early risers anyway, but we hadn’t had much of an opportunity to see Deon’s cousin, Ian. He went to work, but came home to make us a…

Fun in Colorado Springs

Today was so busy! We slept in, cause that’s how we roll.  First activity of the day: Trolls at the dollar movie theater! We were joined by Deon’s cousin, Ilea, her husband, Jason, and her father. It was a good, if strange, movie.  Then we headed to Mcdonald, because we wanted a free place to play. And play we did, for 3 hours! It was nice to visit with the adults while the kids played. A short visit to the…

Sunday in Tennessee  ?>

Sunday in Tennessee

State number 23 (I think). We are asked the question all the time “what has been your favorite?” Or the like. I can never answer. I had the same problem after our honeymoon. They were all so different. Now, not so different, but each a unique experience.  I had a very nice sabbath at church. Kieran had to stay out of nursery with a cold (picked up from church last week), and he was ticked off about it, but Deon…
