Easy Sunday
We attended church at 10. Well, a little late since we had a lot to do before we left. We had showers to take, made crepes, and had to hook up. Church was good. Deon and I have been working on my family history, so that is interesting.
We headed to biscayne national park, hoping to snorkel but it was too windy. We spent some time in the visitors center learning and hanging out with the rangers.
Then we headed to a super sketchy neighborhood to do laundry, some shopping, and bed down for the night.
I did have a disturbing incident of white privilege/ racial profiling. I made purchases twice at Walmart (I forgot some important items) and walked by the door security with a nod from him both times. On my way in the second time I noticed that this man had a line of multiple black families while he was scrutinizing their purchases and receipts. It’s possible this isn’t what it looked like. A former Walmart employee has brought up other plausible situations. But the likelihood is that they were stopped because they were black, and I wasn’t because I was white. I find this deeply disturbing, but I don’t have any solutions. What could *I* have done differently? Where can I make my stand and make a difference?
