A few notes before I move on. We are doing an excellent job of saving money by not paying for overnights. Parking lots, truck stops, on to federal land. We took a hilarious wrong turn into Idaho last night, to much cheering from my nieces for racking up another state. We overnighted in Afton, WY, in star valley. It so happens across the street from a new LDS temple being built, in the old stomping grounds of a good friend of mine.

Today took us to Grand Teton National Park, WY. This may be my favorite national park. Breathtakingly beautiful. We hit the park in time to catch the boat at Jenny lake across and hike the 2.5 miles back. Other than a argument with my 2 year old about him holding someone else’s hand (for safety reasons, as I was carrying the baby) and losing our last binki for baby K (miles from any store that would sell them). It was a blast. Oh, except for the mosquitoes. They make me a little crazy.

The kids also were excited about the junior ranger program. It’s our first of many on this trip. As an added incentive, if they complete a junior ranger book, I buy them a nice pin. Sometimes the badges they hand out are super cool (these ones were wood, with the option of a 100th anniversary pin), and sometimes they are cheap, generic, plastic things that makes their time not worth it. So I make it worth it. Pins and postcards are the only souvenirs I am willing to spring for. You would think this is just bc we are in an rv, which is a plus, but even before kids my only souvenirs were postcards. But, nothing like living in such a small place to make you not a “stuff” person!

  1. Wow! You guys seem to be having an amAzing experience! I’ve just read through every posting so far and am thrilled you’ve gotten to see all you have along the way, plus learned the lessons, too. One thing I’ve learned is that the “bust” experiences sometimes come back to you with a lot more meaning later on. Hope it works that way for your family, too. We miss you!
