Birthday season in full swing
4 out of my 6 kids are summer babies, and it’s birthday #2 for the season. Dimitri turned 8 today! This is a big birthday for those of our faith, because it is the age you are allowed to get baptized. We have some options, but are holding out to see if a trip back home mid-travels will be in order.
He started the day with crepes. It was so late, we ended up skipping lunch and headed over to Windmill Island Gardens. Holland, Michigan is full of (you guessed it) Dutch immigrants. This location sported a carousel, street organ, shops with wooden shoes and other wares, and the only working windmill in the US. Oh, and a small herd of young fresian horses we fell in love with. We all had a great time running around.
Poor kid, what he really wanted to do for his birthday was to play mini golf and go to the beach. By the time we were ready to do that, it was raining. But he was a really good sport about it. Maybe it was the crazy big burritos (yes, Deon ate it all, and yes, it hurt) or maybe it was the Legos, but D was ok with putting the festivities off for a sunnier day.
