A day with the amish
I title this “a day with the Amish,” but it wasn’t, really. Part of the Amish culture is to keep to themselves, and they do a pretty good job of that.
But we did learn about Amish culture, both of yesterday and today. We explored the Amish farm and museum. There were many building with very good explanations, a schoolhouse with a retired Amish teacher to answer questions, animals, a playground, a covered bridge, and a house with a guided tour. It was wet, so that added to the fun.
Deon and I took the opportunity to have a date night and try some Pennsylvania Dutch food. I had the sampler with fried chicken, meatloaf, and roast beef, with a side of brown buttered noodles (my favorite), and filling. Deon had a Reuben sandwich and a pulled pork sandwich plus mashed potatoes and sweet corn. Then we bought whoopie pies and shoo fly pie to share with the kids.

Next time you guys head to D.C. you should visit the Pentagon and the Capitol. Both are must see and I deeply enjoyed them (especially the Pentagon).
My big kids did the capitol (I stayed with the littles), but we will put the pentagon on our list. I think we will extend a few more days here.
