Delaware

Unfortunately, we are nearing the necessary end to our trip. We have had a great time, but haven’t always stuck to “the plan” I created. Plus, weddings. Why is it that we take a trip and it all of a sudden becomes wedding season?!?

Anyway, Delaware is getting the short end of the stick here. We will only spend one night and one day here.

We were able to fit in a few things though. A series of necessary errands to get our health insurance squared away, necessitating a celebratory donut run.

We happened to be across the parking lot from one of Delaware’s best donut shops, Dutch Country Donuts. It is located inside a “farmers market,” only open Fri-Sun. Lucky for us, it’s Friday!

The farmers market was like a cross between the fair buildings and a rabbit hole, with no fresh produce in sight. There were a couple of their donuts that were absolutely to-die-for, specifically their key lime pie and strawberry cream. Both were filled with pie filling and a layer of whipped cream filling. So good!

Next, on to the DuPont Environmental Education center. This was not so much disappointing as very small. The kids got a free tour, but it was too cold and windy to walk the boardwalk, plus we were a few weeks early to see much.

They recommended a nearby children’s museum that we could go to for 50% off with our ACM membership, so we headed there.

The Delaware Children’s Museum seemed small at first, but it was really quite big enough we spent 5 hours there, and I was still dragging my kids away when we left. There were about 10 exhibit spaces, from clinbing areas and art to trains, water tables, and fitness tests. Plus makerspace.

And, we are off to a new state!
