Childhood dreams
We almost skipped today. I couldn’t decide if the extra miles were worth it.
Plus we got a late start. I wanted Deon to get his work done, and we HAD to do laundry (the only item I wasn’t able to mark off my to-do list yesterday). In the meantime, I took some kids swimming (and sat in the hot tub myself), while Aunica took the little boys to the park. Which was her choice bc the pool was cold, but then she regretted it.
Anyway, today we were in search of ponies. As a child I loved reading. Still do. But back then it was an all consuming, all the time passion. I especially liked books about animals, and marguerite Henry’s Misty of Chincoteague was one of my favorites. It is about a specific band of ponies that exists on Assateague island, an island shared by both Virginia and Maryland.
So, we went in search of ponies. And found them.
You have to look closely, but they are there. And I am brought back to my childhood, vividly imagining myself if this very spot. Someday I will come back for pony penning…
