South Florida
We started our day in the parking lot of a Home Depot. Actually, deon and I were woken up at 5am by talking right out side the rv that didn’t stop. We can sleep at a truck stop through cycling engines, generators, etc, but not talking.
I got out to walk into Home Depot and was weirded out by a number of groups of men hanging out in the parking lot. Loitering. Just standing around in groups of 3-4. Really made me feel uncomfortable until I realized they were day workers looking for employment. That made more sense.
From there we headed to Everglades Alligator Farm. Deon and I had been here before, so he stayed in the rv and worked. This place is small but super fun. There is a snake show, an alligator show, an alligator feeding, other animals to see, and an alligator growing farm. You even get to hold snakes and baby alligators! And the capstone, an airboat ride, with just the right amount of thrill for my littles.
From there we headed to Robert Is Here. It’s a fruit stand with all kinds of (expensive) tropical fruits. The kids tried them all, but didn’t like many. Which, I suppose, is fine, because I couldn’t afford those kinds of expensive tastes! They did love the fresh mango and star fruit, and Aunica really liked the passion fruit.
We met a very sweet family at church on Sunday who were kind enough to invite us over for dinner. They have 5 children, 15-2 years old, so it was quite a party (and their house may never recover). It is so nice to meet friendly people who are interested in what we are doing. The kids and I particularly crave connections on the road, so it was good to get our “fix.” And I hope to stay in touch and have friends all around the country!
