Land of Lincoln
Springfield, IL is a place near and dear to Abraham lincoln’s heart, and he holds a special place in the heart of Springfield. We chose to spend our day at the Lincoln museum. It was amazing! My kids were a little on fire today, which made it more…complicated. But the exhibits were interactive and the 2 shows were indescribable in their special effects. Cannons with smoke rings, disappearing narrators, holographic smoke scenes. Absolutely captivating. We also toured two exhibits, one depicting his early life, and the other his White House life.
One exhibit was particularly moving. It was a scene that stayed with Lincoln his entire life, and influenced the course of our nation. It was a wax sculpture of a slave family ripped apart at the auction block. It nearly brought Deon to tears, he was so moved. I wish I had a picture to share, but it exists on my big camera.
It was super cool to hear about him and his family as real people. Also very cool was his actual (or one of) top hat, with his worn fingerprints in the brim.
After, we toured the courthouse, then called it a movie night.
